英语幽默演讲稿篇1

one of the most popular hobbies among people is reading books. more and more people spend their spare time in reading the books they are interested in.

there are so many books in the world that it is impossible for any one to read all of them, even if he spends his whole life in reading. before we start reading, we should find out whether it is valuable for us to read.

reading good books is one of the greatest pleasures in life. it can enrich our knowledge. it makes us learn lots of things we did not previously know. we can be aware of what had happened in the past as well as what is happening in the present time. the more books we read, the more knowledge we get. no matter how much education we receive or how much expensive we have, we can not become a full man unless we keep reading.

reading bad books will lead you to a wrong way and prevents you from progressing. it’s worse than reading nothing. so we know how important it is to read good books.

book can be read at random time if you have leisure, and there never be a time limitation. also, you can read a book to achieve a more really history. through a book, you can communicate with its author without other’s transmission. all these rarely can be easily achieved by a television.

furthermore, book is a treasure that has developed centuries. as we know when written language appeared, human beings became use it to record their lives, and this action leaves us a lot of historic precious mineral. we can absorb intelligence and wisdom, and we can also be taught lessons. i love book from my heart, form book i know how to communicate with others, and i learn my homeland is the place i love best, and also i know my parents are the very individuals who i love through my life. what about the television? television, sometimes, show violence, sex, drugs beyond our choice.

the nature of impeachment: a narrowly channeled exception to the separation-of-powers maxim. the federal convention of 1787 said that. it limited impeachment to high crimes and misdemeanors and discounted and opposed the term "maladministration." "it is to be used only for great misdemeanors," so it was said in the north carolina ratification convention. and in the virginia ratification convention: "we do not trust our liberty to a particular branch. we need one branch to check the other."

"no one need be afraid" -- the north carolina ratification convention -- "no one need be afraid that officers who commit oppression will pass with immunity." "prosecutions of impeachments will seldom fail to agitate the passions of the whole community," said hamilton in the federalist papers, number 65. "we divide into parties more or less friendly or inimical to the accused."³ i do not mean political parties in that sense.

the drawing of political lines goes to the motivation behind impeachment; but impeachment must proceed within the confines of the constitutional term "high crime[s] and misdemeanors." of the impeachment process, it was woodrow wilson who said that "nothing short of the grossest offenses against the plain law of the land will suffice to give them speed and effectiveness. indignation so great as to overgrow party interest may secure a conviction; but nothing else can."

common sense would be revolted if we engaged upon this process for petty reasons. congress has a lot to do: appropriations, tax reform, health insurance, campaign finance reform, housing, environmental protection, energy sufficiency, mass transportation. pettiness cannot be allowed to stand in the face of such overwhelming problems. so today we are not being petty. we are trying to be big, because the task we have before us is a big one.

this morning, in a discussion of the evidence, we were told that the evidence which purports to support the allegations of misuse of the cia by the president is thin. we're told that that evidence is insufficient. what that recital of the evidence this morning did not include is what the president did know on june the 23rd, 1972.

the president did know that it was republican money, that it was money from the committee for the re-election of the president, which was found in the possession of one of the burglars arrested on june the 17th. what the president did know on the 23rd of june was the prior activities of e. howard hunt, which included his participation in the break-in of daniel ellsberg's psychiatrist, which included howard hunt's participation in the dita beard itt affair, which included howard hunt's fabrication of cables designed to discredit the kennedy administration.

we were further cautioned today that perhaps these proceedings ought to be delayed because certainly there would be new evidence forthcoming from the president of the united states. there has not even been an obfuscated indication that this committee would receive any additional materials from the president. the committee subpoena is outstanding, and if the president wants to supply that material, the committee sits here. the fact is that on yesterday, the american people waited with great anxiety for eight hours, not knowing whether their president would obey an order of the supreme court of the united states.

at this point, i would like to juxtapose a few of the impeachment criteria with some of the actions the president has engaged in. impeachment criteria: james madison, from the virginia ratification convention. "if the president be connected in any suspicious manner with any person and there be grounds to believe that he will shelter him, he may be impeached."

why does football get people into a frenzy?

who is your idol? it may be napoleon, picasso, or michael jackson. but who is my idol? can you guess? it is ronaldo. he is the no. 1 super star of football.

football is a game in which 22 people chase one ball around a large field. the aim of the game is to get the ball into the net to score.

after all, itsquo;s such an easy game, and yet people go crazy mad over it. the answer lies in two facts. one is the game itself. sometimes it is beyond any description. football is a game of passes and techniques, passion and love, more importantly, unity is the key---the whole team working as one, united they will never be defeated.

the europeansquo;s style. of play is like a waltz, the brazilian like a samba, and the passionate argentineans play as if they are doing a tango. football is so unpredictable, so unbelievable. you will never know who will win until the last minute. especially when suddenly there is a goal, the fans who have been sitting on the edge of their seats, will be wild with joy and excitement; and the losers with disappointed hearts will despair over their teams.

the other is of course the super stars. each one has his own personality, just like my idol ronaldo. when he smiles, we all smile with him. who can forget that buck-toothed smile, or that unique hairstyle. during the 2019 world cup. ronaldo was born to a poor family. he has set an example to children who cansquo;t afford a pair of shoes, but have talent and a passion for football. he gives them confidence and hope of a better future.

football is the game that wins everyonesquo;s heart and the best game ever invented.

learn how to say no

we've all been taught that we should help people. it is the right thing to do and will make us popular with others. it may even win us favors in return. however, we must be realistic. we can't say yes to every request. if we did, we would fail or go crazy for sure. sometimes we simply don't have the time to help. in this case, we must know how to say no politely.

when we need to say no, here is one method we can try. first, we should tell the truth. if we really can't do something, we should just say so. second, we should remember to refuse requests politely. we must communicate clearly, but must also be sincere and sympathetic. a true friend will understand. finally, we must not feel guilty about saying no. sometimes refusing others is the right thing to do. it can save ourselves, and them, a lot of trouble. in short, we cannot please everyone all the time. refusing favors is a part of life.

a little kid fell in love with another little kid, a school mate. sometimes the kids think they fall in love when they have a crush on someone else in the class, when they‟re eight or ten years old or something like that. so the eight-year-oldkid came back home and asked his father, father, is it expensive to be married? and the father said, yes, son, it is very expensive. so the son asked, how much does it cost? and the father said, i don‟t know, son. i‟m still paying.

ladies and gentlemen: my topic is honesty.

as a correspondent of the qingdao morning news, i visited dr. james gilman, the president of the international committee for marco polo studies in england.in this picture, this is james, and this is me and we are looking at a dragon’stooth. this is a true story.

65 years ago, james lived in qingdao. then he was only 5 years old. heoften visited the aquarium and was fascinated by a creature on display there, which he thought was a dragon. he was afraid of its sharp teeth and wanted oneto keep as a treasure.

in the late 1930s, when the japanese occupied qingdao, his family had toleave. on his last day in qingdao, he ran to the aquarium and pulled out one ofthe teeth from the dragon’s mouth.

he kept the tooth for the next 65 years, but the feeling of guilt at havingstolen it was there in the background all through his life. it was always on hisconscience, and the feeling intensified as he became older. finally he decidedto put right his childish error. in 20__, he visited qingdao and returned it tothe aquarium with his sincere apologies. he received a warm welcome.

when james visited qingdao, i accompanied him all the time and reported onhis visit. i was deeply touched by his honesty. it has taught me a lot. i thinkto err is human. the important thing is to have the courage to admit and correctone’s error.

honesty is a vital quality of human behaviour. so we should try to keep anhonest mind in everything we say and do. i would like to say to all of myfriends: let’s be honest people of good moral character.
